FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

ARE YOU TAKING NEW PATIENTS?

I am currently accepting new patients for daytime appointments.  Intakes are scheduled on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Your intake appointment will take about an hour.

I prefer in-person appointments but understand if you need to meet by telehealth.  I have a limited number of telehealth spots for new clients.  Existing clients may choose a hybrid schedule of in-person and telehealth appointments.

HOW DO I KNOW YOU ARE THE RIGHT THERAPIST FOR ME?

The only way to know for sure is to come in for a session.  Most clients can decide within a few sessions if we are a good fit.  Take a look around this site and read my blog posts to gain more information about me!

WHAT THEORETICAL APPROACH DO YOU USE?

I believe that each person is an individual and has varying needs for counseling. I find Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy,  Family Systems Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Mindfulness techniques are often helpful for my clients.  I am a Christian therapist and can assist patients from a Christian background if desired.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THERAPY?

After you have made the decision to seek counseling you may feel nervous.  I see therapy as a shared journey.  We will work together to help you identify your goals and manage ways to obtain the results you desire.  I am here to help, support, and respect you during this journey.  Ultimately you will make your own decisions along the way.  I am here to offer suggestions and opinions but will not tell you what to do.

IS THIS SERVICE CONFIDENTIAL?

To facilitate the counseling process, what you say to your counselor will be held in the strictest confidence. However, there are certain circumstances and conditions under which the content of your counseling session may no longer be confidential.  Below is a list of some, but not all, of the circumstances where your counselor may be legally or ethically obligated to disclose information about you:

  1. Diagnosis and dates of service shared with the client’s insurance company to collect payments.  If you are planning on using insurance for our counseling sessions, please initial to acknowledge that you understand diagnosis is REQUIRED to ensure insurance coverage.

  2. When there is reasonable suspicion of child abuse or abuse to a dependent or elderly person.

  3. If I believe a client may harm her/himself or others.

  4. Cases where the client signs a release of information.

  5. Information is necessary for supervision or consultation.

  6. Information released as outlined in the HIPPA Notice of Privacy Practice.

  7. Those required by law.

Please discuss with me any concerns you may have regarding confidentiality

Do you offer free consultations?

At this moment, I do not provide consultations for a few important reasons:

1. Building a Meaningful Relationship. I believe in the importance of building a strong and meaningful therapist-patient relationship. This process takes time, and I want to ensure that we can establish this connection effectively. If you decide to work with me, we'll collaborate to create a solid foundation for our therapeutic journey. To protect your confidentiality and rights, signed documents are essential before we begin working together

2. Respect for Your Time and Mine: Time is a valuable resource for both you and me. My schedule is primarily designed to accommodate client sessions, which is my main focus. I frequently receive requests for consultations, and while I appreciate the interest, I believe in maintaining clear boundaries. This enables me to provide dedicated attention to clients who are ready to make a commitment to their personal growth.

3. Quality over Quantity: An exploratory phone call can sometimes feel like a "speed dating" experience – without a commitment from either party. Given the high volume of consultation requests I receive each week, I prioritize clients who are ready to invest in themselves and embark on their therapeutic journey.

WHAT ARE YOU HOURS?

I see clients by appointment only.  My hours are Monday 10-3, Tuesday 7-3, Wednesday 7-3, Thursday 7-3, and Friday 7- noon.  I offer 35 possible appointments during the week but limit my caseload to 20-25 patients per week to provide the highest level of care.

CAN YOU PRESCRIBE MEDICATION?

No.  Therapists are not doctors and cannot prescribe medication.  Many clients do find that medication can help them.  I suggest you visit with your general practitioner or make an appointment with a psychiatrist to see if you could benefit from medication.
