Dear Expecting Mom, It's okay to have some anxiety about labor

Dear Expecting Mom,

Congratulations on your journey to motherhood! As the day of labor approaches, it's natural to feel a mix of excitement and worry. However, I want to assure you that there's no need to fret. Countless women have gone through this amazing experience before, and you are not alone. I work closely with mothers who have anxiety about everything from getting pregnant, what to expect when expecting, how will their labor go, and what happens when they get home with the new baby.

Remember that your body is designed for childbirth. It has been preparing for this moment for months, undergoing remarkable changes to support the growth of your baby. Trust in the wisdom of your body and its ability to bring your little one into the world.

You are not alone in this journey either. Your healthcare team, consisting of experienced doctors, nurses, and midwives, will be there to guide and support you throughout the process. They are skilled professionals who have helped many women through labor, and they will prioritize your safety and well-being. As a therapist, I can help you manage your anxiety, identify boundaries you want to hold with family and friends and help ease your worries.

Take comfort in knowing that every birth story is unique. I am sure you have heard some stories from your well-meaning friends about their labors. Some labors are swift, while others take a bit more time. Embrace the unpredictability and focus on the beautiful outcome—a precious bundle of joy in your arms.

So take a deep breath, trust your body, and have faith in the expertise of your healthcare team. You've got this, Mom! The wonders of motherhood await you, and soon, you'll be holding your little one in your arms, realizing that the journey was worth every moment.

If you are anxious about this journey please reach out for an appointment. I would be honored to help you navigate your new station in motherhood.

Wishing you a smooth and empowering labor experience.

With warm regards,

Susan Ellis, LPC
