Finding Body Positivity: Why Comparing Yourself on Social Media is Hurting You

Keywords: Susan Ellis LPC, therapist, Germantown Wisconsin, body positivity, social media, body dysmorphia, reality

As a society, we are constantly bombarded with images of perfection on social media. From flawless faces to toned physiques, it's easy to get caught up in the endless comparisons. Unfortunately, this constant comparison can have a significant impact on our mental health, leading to body dysmorphia, low self-esteem, and a host of other issues.

As a therapist based in Germantown, Wisconsin, I've seen firsthand how social media can exacerbate body dysmorphia and other mental health concerns. That's why I want to encourage you to take a step back and focus on finding body positivity.

The first step towards body positivity is recognizing that social media is not reality. The images you see online are often heavily edited, and even the most "perfect" people have their flaws. By comparing yourself to these images, you are setting yourself up for failure.

Instead of focusing on external factors, try to shift your focus toward internal factors. Focus on how you feel, rather than how you look. Surround yourself with positive influences, whether it's a supportive friend or a therapist like myself who can help you work through any mental health concerns you may have.

If you're struggling with body dysmorphia or other mental health concerns, I encourage you to schedule an intake session with me. Together, we can work towards finding body positivity and building a healthier, happier you. Simply complete the contact form on my website to get started.

Remember, your mental health is important, and it's time to start prioritizing it. Let's work together towards a happier, healthier you.
